Romania
To join the project for the resumption of the Romanian Cernavoda Units 3 and 4, which had been suspended in the early 1980s during the simultaneous construction of five CANDU-6 units, and which have the same PHWR(pressurized heavy water reactor) type as that of the Wolsong nuclear power plant, KHNP has prepared for the project by signing a technical cooperation agreement with Romania's SNN (Societatea Nationala Nuclearelectrica) in March 2002, and by signing a cooperative agreement for nuclear power between Korea and Romania in February 2004.
Romania chose the Finnish model for raising funds for the project (the method to return investment profits to investors by supplying electricity) and in March 2009, established EnergoNuclear, the ordering company, by attracting six major European investors. Currently the government is considering the EPC order plan.
In September 2007, KHNP signed an MOU for cooperation with AECL, the company that holds the fundamental technology for Cernavoda Units 3 and 4, with which KNHP has continuously held discussions regarding the project for the resumption of their construction. In addition, KNHP is also making efforts to receive the order along with other domestic nuclear power plant companies by signing a joint development agreement with Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Daewoo Engineering & Construction in February 2009.
Aiming to export KHNP's excellent technologies for the construction and operation of nuclear power plants to Europe according to the ordering model and bidding schedule to be determined by the ordering company EnergoNuclear, KHNP is actively carrying out the planning of the project.
